The Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP) is a practical application of Polyvagal Theory, which is designed to reduce sound sensitivities and improve auditory processing, behavioral state regulation, and social engagement behaviors by listening to specially-filtered music.
The music in the SSP prioritizes the middle frequencies associated with a melodic human voice, as they convey cues of safety. These frequencies are presented by a process of filtration, where the desired mid-range frequencies are emphasized, and frequencies outside the desired mid-range are de-emphasized. The music is dynamically, progressively filtered.
The Safe and Sound Protocol is a powerful tool for supporting nervous system regulation.
